Two Sided Purse

These two-sided purses are adorable! They are made of soft fleece and cotton fabric on the letter and flower. This was made for my niece Lauren who recently broke her arm and couldn't come to a sleep over at my house so her sister Brooke, helped me sew this :). It has two pockets and one flap that will switch to covering whichever side you need. It can be made in a variety of colors and the flower/letter portion can be designed however you like with various fabrics.

My niece Brooke, modeling this purse. She even helped to make it! :)

Two Sided Purse Price (10x8inches)

purse is made of fleece and cotton fabric. machine washable cold cycle. dry on low. (there will be purposeful fraying, excessive stringing can be cut off after washing).

Christmas Craft Ornament Idea

So, I was invited to an Ornament party coming up where you are supposed to make 'homemade' ornaments. Being as 'crafty' as I am, after agreeing to do it, I actually found it quite challenging! I definitely wanted to do something different than everyone and tried to guess what would or could be brought to the party (gosh forbid if you do the same thing as another! lol). I have no idea! I have never been to such a party but I was determined to find an idea that would be unique and I 'think' I found one, we'll see : /, yikes!

Isn't it SO cute! I wanted to share it with you so you can make it for your family's too or for a friend. In my case, I had to make as many of the same ornaments as there are guests (13 or 15, I don't remember). All guests do the same and you end up with one each of the guests homemade ornaments. Like a cookie exchange? She doesn't' know it but, I am also giving the hostess of the party, supplies to make it with her 6 kids (and we pulled my brother's families names and we are making them for their 3 1/4 kids too. shhh! don't tell either family). I'm excited! I know how much she must 'love' a potential messy children's craft party!? he he he. So, all you need is

Red paint
ribbon
wood spools
paper for "list"

Each family member can have their Christmas wishes, typed or written on paper then taped to the painted spool. You can add new paper it every year marked with that years requests to remember the sweet thoughts of littles at Christmas :) It's SUPER easy and the best idea that someone else made up. ;)

A 5x7 book I made for a friend and have decided to add it to 'what i do'. It is washable but I wouldn't wash it all the time. It is designed for the edges to fray.

Lettering

You will LOVE this lettering! There is so much you can do to personalize it. Colored/patterned paper and fabrics, Lifestyle and Patterns can be displayed.

This was lettering I did for my son. He was born in Atlanta Georgia so we kept the local newspaper  from his DOB to use for this purpose. The other ideas for this that may be featured later: lettering in funny papers, black and white or colored Sunday funnies. :) I did a Map of where a child was born.
(click on the pictures to see them larger)

As you can see below, I usually mix patterns but can definately do all lettering in the same pattern. $7.00 per letter.

"Stewart" in 4in lettering.
12 inch lettering

I get my lettering from Hobby Lobby usually.

Lettering
paper or scrapbook paper
modpodge
toll paint for edges

1. put mod podge on the front of lettering
2. place paper on the lettering in the direction you desire. Smooth it over with your finger, taking care to rub edges down.
3. use xacto knife to cut paper off from letter.
4. paint edges matching color to paper
5. Mod Podge the top of the paper and on the sides.

Bib, Burp Cloths, Tab/Tag Blankets & Blankets

Personalized Baby gift items if you know the child/babies name/Initial. If you don't know the name or they aren't giving it out, you can consider the families last initial? I like to buy what fabric is on sale and make do. Reminant section is my best friend cause the burp cloths for instance don't take more than 11x12in blocks for back ground of initials.

What you need for this DIY craft:
guaze type burp cloths ( i used Gerber daipers )
2 contrasting fabrics
print a monogram letter or animal if you want?
sewing machine with tread :)

1. I folded my diapers in half and sewed them long ways. (think "hot dog", not "hamburger") I just let the raw edges be the edge, nothing fancy.
2. cut one fabric for back ground, the desired width and height. I did 11x12in.
3. trace and cut applique letter in contrasting fabric. Pin it to secure. Sew it on the background fabric.
4. sew piece onto bottom edge of diaper and DONE!

All "a" monogramming.

Here is a towel bib with magnetic closure (wouldn't do again, closure was hard for me, having no sewing training), some of my Burp Cloths with Initials, Tab/Tag Blankets (babies love these small, easy to carry 'blankets' and suck on and play with the ribbons), and Blankets. Same idea with the initial/applique for bib and blanket. Sew right sides together leaving a hole big enough to reach in to turn right side out. Turn right side out and whip stitch it closed or sew it closed.

These two were made for twin girls with "M" and "S" initials. I used the same fabrics but switched how I used them. On the tab blankie. I like sewing the fabrics together with the raw edge out so when it's washed its a soft edge and extra texture for baby to play with. Babies love textures so choose ribbons that have different feels. I also use a silkie fabric or fleece opposite the cotton fabrics for the same reason.

The Blanket in this set is backed with Fleece.

All items are designed for the "raw edges" of the material to fray a little when washed. Burp cloths get softer when washed (gauze gerber diapers, sewn in half-long ways). Babies LOVE these burp clothes and use them a bit as blankies for the car as they get older.
ALL PROCEEDS BENIFIT OUR NEXT ADOPTION EFFORTS :) THANK YOU!

I decided to name my crafts "Mulholland Drive" after the street I lived on as a young girl. My memories of those days are simple and fun and full of imagination. This inspired me as it was the first memories I have. Hopefully you will appreciate the simple, fun and imaginative Gifts and Crafts I make inspired by those times. No matter what, I love what I do and hope you do to.
I had a very active imagination being 5th of 11 children. We were encouraged to be independant and creative and with so many kids, there were plenty of opporunities to sneek off to day dream! ;) I love to make and create and can't seem to stop myself from doing it! Full-time, I am a successful Hairstylist, Wife and new Mommy but apparently I'm not busy enough because I love to find things I love and improve on them, putting my own stamp on it. This blog is a place to display all I do so hopefully you will enjoy it also. I am constantly creating so check back often. I love to hear what you have to say about what I do so leave a comment or two... :)
